Middle Room School Tour

Posted by Ms. Thomas On June - 27 - 2017

The middle room went on their school tour today. We went to the Museum of Country Life in Turlough. The children were split into two groups and took part in two activities. First we got a tour of the Museum, learning all about life in the past. We saw lots of old objects and tools from life in rural Ireland years ago. We even got to try on some clothes from the past which was great fun!

We enjoyed lunch in Brambles Café.

After lunch, we had a ceramic painting workshop. We learned that cups and plates are made from clay, dried in a kiln, decorated with special paint and then glazed in order to make them shiny. We designed and decorated our very own ceramic plate with special ink. We really enjoyed this workshop!

We had a great day!

After-school fun!!!

Posted by Alex On December - 22 - 2016

We made a pizza last week in after-school. We used pesto, cheese, corn, carrots and tomato sauce. It didn’t really take long to cook and it tasted lovely. We also made Christmas decorations using play-doh.

Making pizza! Play-dough fun. Making our own pizza.

Science Week

Posted by Ms. Thomas On November - 18 - 2016

We celebrated science week in the middle room with some exciting experiments!

We created a rainbow using skittles and warm water. We put the skittles on a plate in different shapes, then we poured some warm water in the middle and watched as the colour slowly started to run from the skittles, creating a rainbow. We even created a Mayo-themed rainbow!

First we put the skittles on a plate. .

On Thursday we had fun with another interesting experiment. We created a volcano using bread soda and vinegar. We put some bread soda in a bottle and then added vinegar and watched as our volcano erupted! We learned that a chemical reaction between the the vinegar and bread soda caused the eruption.
