Best wishes Ms. Naugton and welcome Ms. Lally.

We wish Ms. Naughton best wishes on her maternity leave which has now commenced and would like to welcome Ms. Caroline Lally who was appointed as her replacement following recent interviews.

Ms. Lally, Srah Tourmakeady, is a fully probated teacher with significant experience in junior room, multi-class settings. In order to give her adequate time to get to know her pupils parent-teacher meetings will be postponed until early next year .

The new entrants have settled in very well and, aside from annual parent-teacher meetings, you are welcome to make an appointment with classroom or Learning Support/Resource teachers any time.

CCTV

To help ensure the safety of everyone concerned we have installed two hd cameras on the school bus. Data from the CCTV system will be accessed in accordance with Data Protection Regulations. The data controller in respect of images recorded and stored by the CCTV system is the Principal on behalf of the Board of Management. The personal data recorded and stored will only be available to the data controller.

Swimming Classes

Swimming classes for pupils in 1st to 6th class will commence on Friday, November 7th at Claremorris swimming pool until December 12th.  Cost per pupil - €48 payable in advance (including bus).  Please note that aerosol sprays are not permitted. Click here if you wish to pay online

Junior & Senior Infants finish at 11.30pm on those days and the bus will accommodate this.

Class and family photos

Over the summer we added some lights to our video/photo corner.  This enables us to produce better quality images and along with the annual class photo we also took family portraits this year.  The images are available for purchase in a variety of sizes and as gifts (key rings, mugs etc.) from Photobox.  You must select the area of the photo you want on smaller items such as stickers and keyrings when you order online.

Please note that while these are not professional photos they are the pupils' work and a percentage of the proceeds are donated to the school.  Thanks to Ellen in 6th class for help in taking the photos, Megan, Lorna and Amy for organising everyone and arranging the poses.  The pupils in 4th-6th class edited the images, replacing the green screen with the selected background and adjusting contrast, tone etc.

Please do not register or order online from Photobox until you have viewed and are happy with the quality of the samples which are being passed from house to house over the next couple of weeks. Mugs and snow globes can only be ordered by the school with November 28th being the last day to guarantee Christmas delivery.  As usual, we will still facilitate the County Photos photographer later in the school year.  The following link can also be sent to relatives in other parts of the country, or overseas, who may wish to place an order.   http://www.photoboxgallery.com/gortskehy2014

Healthy Eating Policy

This is a reminder that our Healthy Eating Policy aims to develop positive and responsible attitudes to eating and to appreciate the contribution that good food makes to good health. It does not allow chocolate bars, biscuits, confectionery icing or chocolate yogurts. Cereal bars are allowed under the policy. Occasional treats are given in the school at the teacher's discretion. Parents are reminded to please comply with the school's healthy eating policy when filling your child's lunchbox.

For the benefit of new entrant parents our experience with Frube yogurt shots (pictured opposite) especially in the Junior room is that they are difficult for children of that age to consume. More often than not the contents end up being squirted by accident on the uniform, desk or floor.

We would encourage parents to substitute these with any other form of yogurt. Thank you for your co-operation.
